I just left my home in Michigan for an extended winter vacation (6 months). I left the thermostat on 52 degrees, shut off the water supply in the basement, and drained the faucets. I have a gas water heater. It’s 20+ years old (original). I turned it down to the lowest temperature setting (“warm”). Should I have turned OFF the water heater? I’m not even sure there’s an on/off switch. Could something bad happen if I don’t? Should I find a friend to go in and turn off the water heater? If so, how to do it? At the circuit breaker box in the basement? What about the water heater’s pilot light? And what if the water heater can’t be drained? Also, should I have unplugged the washer and dryer? I think I have a gas dryer. Help!

I have an electric water heater that you can cook soup in, and I want to know if it is possible to cook rice in it.

Our water heater is over 10 years old and plumber told me last year it wouldn”t last much longer. Now it is making popcorn sounds when heating. There are no leaks. It looks like it’s time to replace. I wanted to know if we have to do something in the next few days, or do we have a few weeks or months to select a replacement before it fails completely.
Draining the heater is not an option because the valve is broken and it would cost hundreds of dollars to replace it.

My hot water heater is not working, it happened two days ago and I flick the switch on the electric box, and my water heater started working,but today I don’t have hot water and I have flicked the braker switch many times and hit the reset button on the water heater, but its still not working. How can I tell if its the breaker box or the water heater?

Ok, first, like two months ago I was getting out of the shower and the “hot” wouldn’t turn off. My bf had to go turn our water off completely. Well, we got that fixed a wk or so later with the help of a friend who builds houses. Now, our pilot light keeps going out on the water heater and we hardly have any hot water after we light it AGAIN and it goes off a few hrs later b/c the pilot light has gone out. Anyone know why.

My hot water heater is not that old but it has lots of rust around the bottom, it still works fine but I’m wondering if it will breakdown or leak soon. I’m not looking forward to a freezing cold shower.

My gas was turned off — it is now back on but the hot water heater is not working. The gas works on my stove and on my dryer. Is there a reset switch or could it just be the pilot light?

I have an electric titan tankless water heater its 1yr old. last night all of a sudden it quite producing hot water. no fuse appears to have blown and standby light is on but no hot water just ice cold. please help i know nothing about the new tankless heaters.
