Can A Too-hot Water Heater Damage A Dishwasher And Washing Machine?
I had a hot water repair guy turn my hot water heater way up, saying that was why it wasn’t starting. Then my dishwasher latch stopped staying closed and the steam damaged my counter-top,and on the same day my washing machine left dark spots on my white laundry! When I measured the temperature of the water it was 170 degrees with the meat thermometer.

There is no reason to have the water temperature set that high. Someone is going to get scalded. I don’t know what type handyman you hired but get someone who knows what they are doing to change the proper defective parts on the water heater.

Dishwashers are cold fill only and should not be attached to the hot water pipe.
Washing machines only use hot water when the program exceeds 60 degrees C.
It sounds as if the machines are either plumbed in wrong or that it’s coincidence.

If the water temp is so high that you are worried about the appliances then I think your priorities need rearranging. Your skin could be peeled off by water so hot it can damage the appliances. You could be open to legal action(s) if someone is scalded. 120F Degrees is hot enough for most uses.

dishwashers are made to use hot water but you don’t need it that hot someone will get hurt. it shouldn’t hurt your washer either
