Gfi Reset/hot Water Heater Won’t Work?
Our hot water heater, which is in the basement, won’t work. A nearby GFI outlet won’t reset, and that fuse on the circuit box is tripped. We tried replacing the fuse with a new one, but it still will not reset. We thought it could have been due to dampness in the basement, so we ran a dehumidifier. Nothing has worked. What should we try next?

GFCI recepticles will not reset if there is no power to them. You either have a bad fuse, or there is another one that has blown. Make sure you have screwed the new fuse in nice and tight. Sometimes they don’t make contact.
Best to check for power with a meter. If you aren’t comfortable with doing this, call in an electrician or a friend who knows what to look for.

install a new GFI the old one has probably given up nothing lasts forever

Replace the GFI outlet, sometimes they go bad and will not reset. The hot water heater is probably another problem separately. They usually run on 220 volts, when you replaced the fuse did it blow again, if so you most likely have a damaged heating element in the water heater. It will need to be replaced, and it’s not to difficult to do.
If you have a voltage tester, make sure the power is off before you attempt to check it out. (drain the water before removing the element)
A better way to check is if you have a multimeter where you can measure opens and shorts and voltage, but you need to know what your doing.

if the gfi will not reset then you have a bad ground . the hotwater heater should be on it own breaker of fuse. if that does not work will have to call a electrican to come in and look at it
