How D You Install A 2 Zone Hot Water Heating System?

I have an existing hot water system that I need to add another zone. I am looking for the wiring instructions for updating the controller and adding another circulator.

First of all, you need to check the existing boiler and find the BTU rating. After finding the rating, you will need your complete square footage of the area you will be heating. Now you need to calculate if the BTU rating of the boiler is sufficient to heat the area comfortably. If it is, then you need to plan out the new zone with registers or radiators. Here in Kansas, we generally use wall radiators that go along the wall at the floor level. You need so many feet of radiation to adequately heat the zone. After this is completed, then you need to find the main supply line out of the boiler, tee into that line, and then run your pipe through the new radiation, going in one radiator, out of it, and into the next one. If you need to, you can come up through the floor, into the radiator, and back down through the floor, and then back up into the next radiator. Do this until all the new radiation is hooked up, and then tee back into the return line going back to the boiler. The zone valve can be added to either the supply pipe for that zone, or the very end of that zone line before the tee into the return line. Whatever controller you decide on will wire into that zone valve. Hope this clears things up a little! Good luck!
