How Do You Clean/sanitize The Water Filtration System On A Refrigerator?

I just got a free refrigerator from the inlaws that was sitting in the garage.
And I know its gross, but some mice chewed on the water hose going to the refrigerator.
It was never hooked up to a water line while it was in there but I don’t feel comfortable just buying a new hose and filter and letting the water drain out for a couple minutes.
If there is some sanitizing method you can share with me then great! Think I should get a technician? Do I need one?
