I would charge $800.00 total. You will make a little and The guy you are installing it for won’t be doing bad.

Unless you have insurance and a license, you shouldn’t even do it. What happens if the new heater has a leak and ruins everything in the house? What if the owner just thinks you should be liable? Remember the judges and jury’s are filled with homeowners, not installers, so they will not side with you. So either do it for free as a friend, or don’t do it.

Sounds like you are not a plumber. I hope you have a lot of money in the bank.
I am in New Zealand. Recently a handyman in Auckland fitted a water heater. fitted a low pressure cylinder as a high pressure system. Did $15000 worth of damage to the property. He not only had to pay for the damage he also got a fine of $8000 from the courts for unlicensed work. This one example of many.
There are reasons why 90% of western countries have very strict licensing regimes for plumbers.
In answer to your question of how much to charge.
Charge enough to pay for lawyers when you get burnt in court!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with 007Long beach on this up to a point. If you do not have the knowledge of not just the plumbing, but the required building codes, permits and possible problems, you may want to pass on this one. However, if you just feel that you must do this, give the homeowner an estimate based on how much you make per hour times how long it should take, ( I change them out in about 1.5 hours, drained, re plumbed, raised and filled) look at any complications, like where it has to go, how are you going to drain it, will the new unit fit in the door, are the pipes reusable or corroded, do you need to upgrade the plumbing and add in the overflow and drain lines..
    Good luck I guess..

If there’s no plumbing (soldering pipe) and you just connect the heater to gas and supply water $120.00 include flex pipes and over flu pipe installation.
