How To Wire My New Water Heater?
We have a Kenmore Economizer 5 that went out. It has a black and red wire on the top of it. It is plugged into the wires in my house as follows:
Red wire from the heater to the purple wire on my house
Black wire from the heater to the white wire on my house
Any ideas?

It shouldn’t matter because resistance heat elements don’t have polarity. As long as you don’t put the the two incoming together you should be fine

That sounds like it was wired properly. but purple is a strange color. Maybe a discolored red wire? If you are in the US the usual house wiring would have a black and a white wire and a ground. The next size cable would add a red wire. Not sure just what you are asking. If the new heater has the same voltage rating as the supply you should have the proper wires in place. Maybe you can clarify what you are asking.
