If A Water Heater Melts Down The Lower Element Should You Have The Hot Water Heater Replaced If Under Warranty
Recently I discovered the lower element of an 80 gallon hot water heater had arced and melted around the lower element, melted wires, and scorched the insulation. It is a new home under 1 year so I should be under warranty. Am I better off getting the whole unit replaced or just is it okay to just replace the element? And what is my justification?

I would push for a new one. Unless it can be proven that it was just a faulty element and nothing more. Try your best to figure out what happened.

Most builders dont like to have a call back on a house that they are finished with….more than likely they were send their plumber out there and he will do the bare minimum to repair it which is replace the element and probably the thermostat…….when that happens then you will probably be okay! If it happens again then you need to do everything you can to get the heater replaced…good luck
