You cannot use softened water on plants (lawns, etc.). Clothes get a lot cleaner with softened water, but....I have a softener, I have hard water...and I have just shut mine off...too expensive to operate (the flushing process ...daily....goes on forever, and used excessive water. AND, softened water is loaded with sodium ions! If you have BP problems, this is not a good solution.
