My Water Heater Makes A High! Pitch (whining) Noise When I Run Hot Water In The House. Can Anyone Tell Me Why?
The water heater is about 10 yrs old, and our area has problems with lime deposits. I tried to flush it once before, about 3 yrs ago, and it didn’t go so well. Also, the water pressue in the house is not strong at all. On a side note, is $200 reasonable for installation charge.

The high pitch sound (most probably) is not comming from your water heater but the pipes due to build-up of lime or rust. Because of this build-up, the diameter by which water passes through becomes smaller, hence the whistling sound. It is the same principle when you “whistle” . You pucker your lips and blow air to create the sound. This will also explain why you have low water pressure. Before changing your water heater, inspect the pipes for build-up. You may do this by removing one of the faucets right off the pipe in your bathroom or the kitchen sink. If there is significant build-up, it may be time to change your pipes. Very seldom will a water heater cause low pressure.

the noise is not coming from your water heater but is coming from your tap washers. dont go and buy your own and try to replace them coz you will probably buy crap ones and probably do a crap job and they will leak in a few months and you will end up calling a plumber anyway. you either need new tap washers or your washers need to be pinned. call a plumber.
do you mean $200 to install a new hot water system??? yes thats reasonable. most hot water systems need to be installed by a plumber and an apprentice and it takes 1-2 hours so yeah
