No Hot Water And No Pressure, Does That Equal A Bad Water Heater?

My water isn’t coming out hot anymore in my tubs and the pressure seems to be off, could that be a bad water heater. It is only 5 years old. We’ve adjusted it to the highest level, actually pass the level wear it says it could burn you and it still is luke warm. Does anyone have any ideas on what could be the problem?

It could be the water heater. Since you have low hot water pressure, you probably have a restriction in the hot water line. If you have low water pressure at all sinks and the tubs, the problem is probably in the first elbow fittings or the shutoff valve(s) above the water heater. I have run into this problem often and resolved it by replacing these fittings. If the problem is restricted to the bathtubs, it could be in the tub faucets or in the hot water supply lines to the tub. Good luck.

It sounds to me like your almost-no-water-pressure at your hot water supply outlets — if the pressure at the *cold* water outlets seems to be O.K. — indicates a serious build-up of scale in the water heater that is restricting the proper flow of water through the tank. If your heater is an electric one, if must be that one of the internal heating elements has burned out — if you are still getting *some warm* water. I believe that if your water heater was gas-fired, your turning the heat control up to as high as it would go should have caused you to burn out the bottom of the tank by now — with disastrous results.
Regardless of what your problem(s) are, you need to pay for the assistance of a recommended, reliable plumbing person.

no pressure has nothing to do with the hot water heater, that has to do with the pump and pressure tank. No hot water could be the hot water heater elements or the thermostats. Or it could be the breakers. Have you checked the hot water heater breaker to make sure it’s on? It’s best to flip it off and then back on again, just to make sure. If it turns out to be the elements or the thermostats check to see if it is still under warranty. Depending on the size and brand it might still be under warranty. The large tanks are 5 years I think. Hope I helped.
    Best of Luck 2U.

The water pressure problem could be your water supply lines. I would check those first. sometimes you get a piece of sediment or a small piece of gravel stuck in the line and it will restrict the flow of water and limit the amount of hot water that you get. Check to see if its still under warranty and call back the person who put it in. You may have to pay the labor charges but the heater may be replaced.

If there is no water coming out at all- its not the heater but the water service.
    Is it electric or gas?
If electric, and you have water, just not hot- then an element is burned out.
If gas- then probably the pilot light is out.Or you have turned it up so high that you have turned it off.

Water pressure coming out of a water heater is only as good as the pressure going in. Have a plumber find out why your pressure is low.
