What Are The Pro/cons Of Getting A Water Softener?

I have city water that comes from a fresh water lake. I would like to know if there is any justification for a water softener as I have never had one. I know it helps with laundry but what about taste and expense and maintenance hassle?

First find out if your water is hard. The easiest method is the self test strips, [available online & some hardware stores].
If it is found to be hard there are a few methods of softening, including automatic salt systems, ionization tanks and magnetic pulse. The salt system has the highest maintenance, the ion tanks are typically by rental service and the magnetic requires no maintenance.
Your budget and level of hardness determines the best system to get.
It’s not advisable to drink or water plants with softened water.
I have a 5-stage RO system for drinking water.

water softener is manly used for removing iron out of your water. if you don’t have iron in your water than there is no need for one
