  1. Rob F Says:

Is the breaker tripping? What part is it leaking from?

  2. Buck Says:

The water leaking is causing it to trip. Most likely the heating element(s) are leaking. Replace the one that is leaking.
Read the wattage of the element.
Purchase the same wattage at the hardware store and buy a water heater element removal socket.
Turn the breaker off to the water heater.
Turn off water valve going to water heater.
Hook a hose to the spigot at the bottom of the water heater and open.
Open the pop-off-valve on top of the water heater to relieve pressure and allow water to drain.
    Remove wires from leaky element.
Remove element with socket once draining is complete.
Install new element making sure the round rubber gasket is in place.
    Connect wires to element.
    Close spigot and remove hose.
    Close pop-off-valve on top.
Turn on water valve going to water heater.
Turn on breaker on tank is filled up.
Make sure you turn the breaker back on last.
    Check for more leaks.
Before all this, see if you can just tighten the element that is on there. sometimes it works.
