Why Is Gas Hot Water Heater Vent Melting Plastic?
My hot water heater vent is melting the plasting rings around the cold water in and hot water out pipes on top of the hot water heater.

Do you know that the heater melted the rings?
They could have melted when someone was soldering copper pipe.
Otherwise, it could be the flue.
You can test the draft of the flue with smoke.
If smoke is drawn into the draft hood when the heater is on, then the flue is most likely OK. Do you have signs of roll out at the burner door? (Soot, burn marks)

Is it a balanced flue?
If so then something might be blocking it….
